During the past decade, the multiverse theory, stating that billions of other universes are out there too, has grabbed the attention of cosmologists. Many cosmologists today such as Max Tegmark support the idea that each universe has a different distribution of matter, but the same laws of physics should operate in each universe. Other cosmologists such as Alexander Vilenkin suggest that there may be different types of universes, with different physics and histories. For example, some believe that there may be an infinite set of universes, with an infinite number of people with your name reading this paragraph. Some other cosmologists who believe in the multiverse theory include Stephen Hawking, Steven Weinberg, and Brian Greene. There are also quite a few critics of this remarkable theory who argue that the multiverse theory is philosophical rather than scientific.
